Biologique Recherche Serum PIGM 400

A spa-cult brightening serum. It earns its place only alongside sunscreen.

What to check
It lists alcohol and fragrance components, so patch test first if your skin is reactive. Use broad-spectrum sunscreen every day. A spot that is new, changing, itching or bleeding is a question for a dermatologist.

Evidence & details

Brightening face serum · 1 fl oz / 30 ml · Contains a fermented wasabi root extract, soy isoflavones, seaweed extracts (palmaria, cystoseira), cress sprout and sea lily extracts, and vitamin E · Contains alcohol and fragrance components (benzaldehyde, cinnamal, cinnamyl alcohol) · No SPF claim (Biologique Recherche's product page and ingredient list)

The Claim
Biologique Recherche says it is “formulated to reduce the appearance of pigmentation marks and help prevent new dark spots from forming,” and that “With daily use, the complexion appears more even, luminous and visibly radiant.”
The Evidence
The brand's own page names sun exposure as the main trigger for dark spots and tells you to protect skin from sunlight after using it. That is the honest frame: any brightening serum only helps tone look more even over weeks, and only if sunscreen stops new marks forming. Biologique Recherche publishes no ingredient concentrations and names no study for this serum, so how much it does on its own is not established. It is not a treatment for melasma or any spot that changes.
Who it's for
Someone with sun-related uneven tone who already wears daily SPF 30+ and wants a luxury serum to add.
Price
$300 at Gee Beauty.

Upheld: the editor backs it. Specs verified on Biologique Recherche's US product page and ingredient list. The ShopMy link opens Gee Beauty. Listing checked Oct 16, 2026.

The routine that makes the cut

AM
  • Cleanser
  • Vitamin C or niacinamide serum
  • Moisturizer
  • Broad-spectrum SPF 30+, reapplied
PM
  • Cleanser
  • Azelaic acid, a mild exfoliating acid, or a retinoid (one at a time)
  • Moisturizer

The Claim

The category sells speed: overnight, visibly erased, in seven days. What a brightening product can do is help tone look more even, over weeks, and only if the sun doesn't undo it first.

Read these with suspicion:

The Evidence

Brightening products can help tone look more even over time. Sun exposure undoes the work fast, so sunscreen is the routine. And any spot that's new, changing, or different from the rest belongs in front of a dermatologist, not a serum.

What a label can credibly support:

These are cosmetic effects, stated as plainly as the labels allow. Edit-specific citations are being compiled; until they are published, this section is label-reading guidance, not a review of studies.

Questions

How long does it take?

Weeks to months, and only with daily sun protection.

Is a dark spot always just pigment?

No. New or changing spots should be checked by a dermatologist.
